HISTORY OF MYSTRY
Raised in Flatbush Brooklyn, NY; , son of Joan Lancaster and Mike Passley, also known as "Di Energy Prince", Mystry discovered his love for music around the age of 11, when he accidentally stumbled on some old reggae records that belonged to his father Mike.
Unbeknownst to Mystry, his father played as “Preacher” from the King Bosco Sound located in Portland, Jamaica, WI in the late 1960’s to the early 1980’s. Mystry knew he wanted to be part of “The World’s Greatest Movement”…Music. For him, music represents..."The Heartbeat of the World." Being from a Jamaican background Mystry was highly influenced by the sounds of The Rock Steady movement, SKA, Roots & Culture, and Lovers Rock. He first became interested in the Dance-hall music scene in 1995.
At the age of 13, the only thing he requested from his older brother Lanky and his father was a set of turntables and from there, he began being creative, showing his love for the music. This fired passion translates into amazing mixes, blends, scratching and composing a distinctive sound and beat; which is why no genre of music is too hard for him to play. whenever it comes to music, Mystry is constantly working to compose the smoothest transition for the perfect mix, while working on his unique style of playing. this unique style is a blend of what he has learned from those who saw his potential and mentored him; Stiff, Allstar and DJ Gringo.
Mystry uses his music to bring a positive message to his crowd, he is sensitive and attentive to the vibes of the people that inspire him. many have said he can be intense, fun and mysterious, which he in return has responded by saying “I always live up to my name "Mystry". “I play music for the people that speak of love and life experiences”.
